Workshop Description

This is a 3-hour workshop is designed for psychologists providing services for individuals or families whose lives have been touched by autism. We will work to understand the nature of autism and the spectrum of people it describes. We will discuss autism assessments, treatment for individuals, and supports and services for families. We will talk about gender and cultural issues as they relate to autism. We will explore other current issues and concerns, such as transition age youth, sexuality, and safety.

 

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe 4 common characteristics associated with ASD
  2. List 3 components of a thorough autism assessment as a way to evaluate assessments they are reviewing and/or performing.
  3. Identify 2 common co-occurring mental health conditions and an adjustment to treatment plans or interventions that will help-meet the needs of persons on the autism spectrum with those conditions.
  4. Describe 3 resources available to people on the autism spectrum.

California Psychological Association (CPA) is co-sponsoring with Contra Costa County Psychological Association.  CPA is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists CPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents. Important Notice: Those who attend the workshop and complete the CPA evaluation form will receive 3.0 continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we give credit only to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
